Perceptions of Student Life
Students are usually described as loud and carefree. But not only students – their minds are loud too, along with the voices around them.
Mental Landscape
Students frequently come across remarks like, “What could they possibly have to take care of?”, “Their life is easier”, “All they need to do is study”, and “A carefree life”. What often goes unnoticed is that even when students’ life looks calm, but their minds are rarely quiet.
Present and Future
Students are always told to live in the present, but what is never seen is the constant pull of the future. Along with it come flow of thoughts about parental expectations, relationships, careers, and self-worth.
An Incomplete Present
For many students, an incomplete present feels safer than an uncertain future. However, even though the present is still waiting to be shaped, it has not taken them anywhere yet. In addition, it is filled with questions that are still unanswered. Eventually, this phase will turn into nostalgia.
Beyond the Carefree Myth
Contrary to popular opinion, no one is really carefree. No one lives without responsibility, no one has a mind free of voices, and no one is promised certainty. Assuming that student life is easy overlooks the emotional and mental weight that comes with it.
Being a student is not just a tag. It is a process shaped by memories, struggles, and questions. Perhaps this phase was never meant to be predictable. It is filled with ambiguity — and that’s exactly what drives us forward with passion.
